Presence

Some years with this music, we know it
well—
says nothing of attunement to
it all here and now.

We let each moment as its own,
the hot breath at the back of the neck that presses us towards
the precipice.

ghostly airy,
punched attack,
crisp and gruff,

fully bodied,
alluvial twang,
ridged and textured,

thickly plucked,
earthly thrum,
vast and vital,

Together
sometimes lush and others limpid,
warmth and coldness,
dense and sparse,
sweet forgiveness, smoldering brush.

We’re vehicles for the music
and too it drives us
precious passengers (home).

How do we
reimagine
here and now
or How does music
vibrate differently
today than on all others?
It’s right there in the clear cold air—
to now reach out and sound it.
